MEDICAL ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

Students entering this field of study have three separate options to choose from to allow maximum utilization of this degree.

CLINICAL ASSISTANT/HEALTH UNIT COORDINATOR OPTION
This ASB degree program is designed for students to develop advanced-level office, communications, and microcomputer skills and to develop an understanding of the medical terminology and office procedures involved in working in a medical office, center, or hospital. The Health Unit Coordinator Option offers students the opportunity to develop examining room procedures and clinical laboratory skills. Graduates of this program are encouraged to sit for the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) Certified Medical Assistant examination and/or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Medical Assisting examination. Graduates meet the job-skill requirements for the position of Unit Coordinator, Unit Secretary, Ward Clerk, Floor Administrator, Clinical Assistant, Medical Secretary, or other medical office positions that require advanced-level office skills.

HEALTH INSURANCE/BILLING SPECIALIST OPTION
This ASB degree program is designed for students to develop advanced-level office, communications, and microcomputer skills and to develop an understanding of the medical terminology and office procedures involved in working in a medical office, center, or hospital. The Health Insurance/Billing Specialist Option offers students the opportunity to develop principles of accounting skills and a more in-depth understanding of medical recordkeeping, billing/coding, and insurance forms preparation. Graduates of this program are encouraged to sit for the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) Certified Medical Office Assistant examination and/or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Certified Medical Office Assistant examination. In addition to meeting the job-skill requirements for the position of Medical Records Clerk, Medical Billing Clerk, Medical Office Secretary and other medical office positions that require advanced-level office skills, graduates may also meet the job skill requirements for the various job-title positions that require advanced medical recordkeeping, billing/coding, and insurance forms preparation.

MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTIONIST OPTION
This ASB degree program is designed for students to develop advanced-level office, communications, and microcomputer skills and to develop an understanding of the medical terminology and office procedures involved in working in a medical office, center, or hospital. The Medical Transcriptionist Option offers students the opportunity to develop advanced-level medical transcription skills. Graduates of this program are encouraged to sit for the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) Administrative Health Assistant examination and/or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Certified Medical Office Assistant examination. Graduates meet the job skill requirements for the position of Medical Transcriptionist and other medical office positions that require advanced-level office skills.
