Areas of Study:
Computerized Accounting Management

How do I know if a degree in accounting is right for me?

  • Are you very detail oriented?
  • Are you a problem solver?
  • Do you have good math skills?
  • Do you find you sometimes “lose” yourself in a project?
  • Do you generally like to see one project through to completion before beginning another?
  • Do people describe you as “focused”?

If you answered “yes” to some or all of these questions, then a career in accounting may be right for you!

This ASB degree program is designed for students to develop advanced-level office, communication and microcomputer skills and gain practical knowledge of the principles of accounting. Graduates are encouraged to sit for the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Registered Bookkeeper examination.

Positions held by graduates of this program include para professional, bookkeeper, payroll clerk, accounts-receivable clerk, billing clerk, financial accounting secretary, or ADP secretary.

Advanced level academics encouraged for qualifying students:

For computerized accounting management (CAM) students who excel in the regular five academic-term program, one additional academic term of advanced-level subjects is available. This sixth term (which becomes the final academic term) includes 13 additional academic credits of advanced accounting subjects, the Job Search Preparation Class and the four-week internship. All graduates who complete this accomplishment receive recognition on their official academic transcript.

To qualify for this additional advanced-level academic term, a CAM student must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA in all accounting subjects and a minimum 3.0 GPA in all other subjects during his or her first three academic terms, and then continue to maintain these qualifying requirements through his or her fifth academic term. Also, a student must receive a recommendation from an accounting instructor to continue with the advanced training.

Advanced-level graduates are encouraged to sit for the Accreditation Council for Accountancy and Taxation (ACAT) examination and/or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) CPA Assistant examination. Graduates may qualify for such careers as CPA assistant, business accountant, income-tax preparer, auditor assistant, accounts-receivable coordinator, accounts-payable coordinator, payroll specialist or junior accountant.
